You can now use your phone in 160 countries if you’re on this UK mobile network

UK mobile network Three has just expanded the number of countries it allows its customers to roam on, meaning if you’re a customer you can now roam in 160 countries around the world at little cost – 92 more than previously possible on Three’s roaming scheme.

While you can’t use your UK home plan free of charge, you can use your regular allowance by paying a daily charge, or alternatively by purchasing a 3-, 7- or 14-day pass. The initiative is called Go Roam Around the World Extra, with the daily charge to use your phone plan set at £7 per day.

This sounds a bit pricey, but it’s much cheaper than the costs you would have incurred before the scheme started, where it’s easy to rack up hundreds of pounds in extortionate roaming fees in countries where UK mobile firms don’t have roaming agreements.

“On Three’s existing Go Roam package, customers can use their calls, texts and data allowance in 71 destinations around the world for 24 hours,” Three said. “With the addition of Go Roam Around the World Extra, customers will be able to use their plan’s data, minutes and texts in 92 new destinations within our inclusive daily roaming passes.”

New destinations added for Three customers include Turkey, the UAE, Argentina, Albania, the Bahamas and Mexico.

“International Travel is hugely important for many of our customers especially as we enter the Summer. This significant growth of our Go Roam offering will ensure that customers can now visit even more countries and continue to use their phone hassle free,” said Mark Gardiner, Director of Consumer at Three UK. “This experience is further improved on our Three You Way plans or through our Roaming Add-Ons.”

With daily charges or a multi-day pass paid for, you can then use your phone as you normally would without fear of winding up with a nasty bit of bill shock – though Three enforces a fair usage cap of 3,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and 12GB of data.

It’s worth noting that daily roaming charges don’t apply to Three customers if you’re on Pay As You Go or your Pay Monthly plan started before 1 October 2021, while Go Roam Around the World Extra is not available to you if you’re on Pay As You Go or your Pay Monthly plan started before 1 October 2021.
