Xfinity is one of the bigger players in the broadband market, and it’s been expanding into the smart home market with a security-focused add-on service called Xfinity Home. Today, Xfinity announced that it’s expanding the collection of home security products it offers to include contact and motion sensors that customers can install themselves—no need to wait for a tech to arrive.
Xfinity Home Security already includes support for Xfinity’s own indoor and outdoor security cameras and video doorbells as well as smart locks, lighting, and thermostats from certified partners such as Kwikset, Philips Hue, and Ecobee. The new door sensors will alert you when the doors they’re installed on are opened, and the window sensors will do the same. The motion sensors will, of course, alert you when motion is detected inside your home.

The door and window sensors both cost $20 each, or you can purchase them in groups of three for $54. Motion sensors are priced at $40 each. Xfinity offers zero-percent financing on the new devices for 24 months.
You need to be an Xfinity broadband customer with an xFi Gateway to sign up for its home security service, as that device serves as a smart home hub in addition to being a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem and Wi-Fi 6 router. The gateway costs $15 per month to lease, and the price of Xfinity Home Security costs $10 per month for self-monitoring service (dubbed Self Protection), $30 per month for professional monitoring (Pro Protection) or $40 per month for Pro Protection Plus. That’s in addition to the cost of other equipment. Xfinity Home Systems range in price from $360 ($15 per month for 24 months) to $600 ($25/month. for 24 months).
Pro Protection Plus includes professional monitoring plus up to a week of 24/7 video recording for each security camera. The Pro tier also allows you to search video footage specifically for people, vehicle, or pet activity.
Initially, customers will need to call 1-800-Xfinity or visit their nearest Xfinity store to purchase the new sensors. Xfinity says options to buy them online or via the Xfinity app will be available in the coming months.
