X-rated bird-kill, or x marks the spot?

There are rich people. And there are rich people. The former are the kind who are wealthy, but want more or less the same things as the ‘other lot’, except on a different scale. So, instead of vacationing in London, the HNI will be keen to book a seat on a luxury liner to Antarctica, or go jaunting off as the first lot of space tourists. The latter are more of the Marie Antoinette variety, who really have no clue of what lies out there and how things may be changing even on the wealthy status front. Pheasant shooting – which may well have derived from the earlier zamindari sport of peasant shooting – is still a posh ‘game’ among some in Britain and in the Great Plains in the US. But, overall, killing birds for fun is now considered, at best, meh, at worst, unfashionably, pointlessly cruel. And, in this bazaar comes Elon Musk who wants to shoot the blue bird of Twitter down and replace it with an X, of the 24th letter of the English alphabet (and SpaceX) fame.

As far as X-rated things go, Musk has not disappointed. Unlogoing a famous ‘hum logo’ takes guts, spunk and moxie. But more than unleashing a cool-looking letter on the Twitterati that riffs founder of the X-Men, Professor X, Charles Xavier, the true test will be whether roasting the birdie will be seen as being tasteless or fowl. But, then, when have the twain of taste and Twitter ever met?
