The company said the results are based on data from 35 million vehicles across the country.<\/p>\n<p><amp-embed width=\"100\" height=\"100\" type=\"taboola\" layout=\"responsive\" data-publisher=\"cox-network\" data-mode=\"thumbs-ma-01\" data-placement=\"Mid Article Thumbnails AMP\" data-target_type=\"mix\" data-article=\"auto\" data-url=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph \">\u201cFor a lot of owners, either they want to do it and they\u2019re [too] busy, or they\u2019re worried about the finances,\u201d said Carfax Editor-in-Chief Patrick Olsen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph \">\u201cThe problem is, yes, it\u2019s expensive at [upfront], but it\u2019s way more expensive if you put it off,\u201d Olsen said. \u201cIt might cost you $150 twice a year to get oil changes and tire rotations, but if your car goes without oil for long enough the engine will seize up. Then you\u2019re talking anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 or more to replace that engine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><amp-ad type=\"nativo\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" layout=\"responsive\" data-request-url=\"https:\/\/www.boston25news.com\/news\/local\/one-five-massachusetts-drivers-behind-two-basic-service-requirements-auto-company-says\/2LOL363XC5B7FIQ4EECPYPJR4A\/?outputType=amp\"\/><button id=\"read-more-button\" class=\"read-more-show\" data-amp-bind-class=\"readMore.hide\" on=\"tap:AMP.setState({ readMore: { show: 'read-more-show', hide: 'read-more-hide' }})\">Read More<\/button><\/p>\n<div class=\"read-more-hide\" data-amp-bind-class=\"readMore.show\">\n<p class=\"body-paragraph \">According to Olsen, the Massachusetts data breaks down like this:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"font_size_sm\">\n<li class=\"font_size_md\">30% are behind on oil changes<\/li>\n<li class=\"font_size_md\">45% are behind on tire rotations<\/li>\n<li class=\"font_size_md\">22% are behind on both<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph \">Olsen said tires should be rotated twice a year or every 5,000 miles, depending on how much you drive your car. Oil change requirements can vary depending on the type of vehicle, but Olsen said most drivers should replace their oil and oil filter every 5,000 miles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph \">\u201cWith synthetic oil, yes, it\u2019s definitely more expensive, but the intervals between changes are higher so it may not cost you more out of pocket over the course of a year than the old conventional oil. It\u2019s crucial you check the owner\u2019s manual,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph \">Jamaica Plain driver Evelyn Collie said she knows the benefits of staying on top of car maintenance.
