Despite only being three years old, this second-generation model is a comprehensive reworking, including a switch to a new platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While previously sharing its\u00a0core architecture with the larger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-review\/nio\/es8\">Nio ES8<\/a>, the ES6 \u2013 expected to be called the EL6 in Europe \u2013\u00a0now uses the same steel platform as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/new-nio-et5-electric-saloon-confirmed-uk-2023\">Nio ET5<\/a> saloon. As a result, it has a slightly stretched wheelbase\u00a0and sits around 50mm lower.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the focus of the second-generation ES6 has been on revising Nio\u2019s design language\u00a0and upgrading the interior quality and feel of the car.<\/p>\n<p>Kris Tomasson, Nio\u2019s vice-president of design, described it as a \u201cmore evolved product\u201d that featured styling that was \u201ca hybrid of SUV and saloon language\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Styling changes include a new version of Nio\u2019s split headlight design and a more rakish, coup\u00e9-esque rear roofline.<\/p>\n<p>There has\u00a0also been a major focus on improving the equipment levels inside the car, and a fresh design is intended to offer greater interior space.<\/p>\n<p>While Nio has yet to release full details of the ES6, it will continue to offer four-wheel drive, with power lifted from 435bhp to 490bhp. It will featuring continuous damping control to ensure a stable ride\u00a0and, like the ET5, will be offered in China with a high level of autonomous driving hardware.<\/p>\n<p>The ES6 will continue to use Nio\u2019s 70kWh battery, which will give it an official range of just over 300 miles. This will be compatible with Nio\u2019s battery swap stations, which can switch out an empty battery for a new fully\u00a0charged one in less than five minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Nio has now expanded into <span>Denmark,\u00a0<\/span>Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden, offering the ET5 and ET7 saloons\u00a0and the EL7, a larger SUV.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s currently putting the finishing touches to its UK expansion plans, with a new country manager in place.
