WNC Sierra Club Monthly Program – Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. – Electric … – Sierra Club

Right after Asheville’s Blue Ridge Parkway EV Weekend (Sept 30 to Oct 1) and National Drive Electric Week, Dave Erb will speak to the WNC Sierra Club about why the very next motor vehicle anyone buys should have a plug.

On Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., Dave will discuss reasons to choose electric vehicles (EVs) and present data to counter widespread narratives which falsely suggest that EVs are bad for the environment, unworkable, or not yet ready for mainstream usage.  Ample time will be allotted for questions and discussion.

In a four-decade automotive engineering career focused on energy and emissions, Dave has developed vehicles with gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, fossil methane, alcohol, electric and hybrid electric powertrains.  He has raced electric and gasoline cars on road courses, ovals, dragstrips and autocrosses.  From 1995 through 2004, he created and taught a three-day professional development short course on “Design of Hybrid Electric Vehicles” for the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Dave and his wife Beth live in a totally electric, solar-powered house, which he chronicled in Chapter 1 of David Hrivnak’s “Driving to Net 0:  Stories of Hope for a Carbon-Free Future.”  They have not bought gas in over four years, despite driving to Florida, Minnesota, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, California and numerous other locations during that time.

The WNC Sierra Club meets monthly in Room 102 at UNCA’s Reuter Center on Campus Drive and simultaneously on Zoom. Register in advance for the Zoom meeting  or visit WNCSierraClub.org. Read more about Blue Ridge Parkway EV Weekend and Electric Drive Week at the links.
