Ford Performance’s mighty EV Mustang drag machine looks to beat its predecessor’s record, the 1400-horsepower Mustang Cobra Jet. Beating the NHRA world record at 8.128 seconds at 171.97 mph for a quarter mile is no joke. However, Ford is not here to joke and waits for the NHRA event to showcase its blistering 1800 horsepower in action later in the year.

The 1800-horsepower EV Mustang means business and hopes to snatch the fastest new full-bodied EV title from zero to 60 mph. Furthermore, it also aims at scooping the crown of the fastest two-wheel drive EV from zero to 60 mph.

The Super Cobra Mustang takes the necessary measure to improve its performance and maintain safety. Although it has its predecessors’ motoring pairs and inverters, it features a revised rear-end setup, new transmission, and a redone battery system to improve efficiency and performance. It also has a larger set of Mickey Thompson drag radials and improved suspension geometry.

Ford’s rivalry with General Motors and Dodge has been in existence for several decades. The three companies have produced muscle cars to go head-to-head against each other, aiming to produce the fastest American muscle car.

Dodge and Chevrolet are looking into producing electric muscle vehicles in their respective plans for electrification. Ford Performance partnered with the best firms to achieve its dreams. Despite making the NHRA world EV quarter mile records, Ford’s engineers did not sit to enjoy the win. They went back to work to find ways of improving their performance to achieve even better numbers.

Partnering with MLe Racecars and AEM-EV was the American manufacturer’s best decision. It is evident in its Mustang EV dragster. The EV rocket runs on MLe Racecars rear, and its Ford Performance software run on AEM-EV hardware. Together, they made the necessary improvements to reduce the weight and increase the horsepower of the Cobra Jet 1400 to produce the aggressive Super Cobra Jet 1800. Impressively, MLe Racecar’s co-founder Pat McCue will be behind the wheel at the NHRA event.
