While WhatsApp may not rival its contemporaries in terms of features, the platform has just the right amount that lets you use the app how you want to and ensure that you are not missing out on anything important. For those who are always concerned about their privacy, the platform lets them lock the app behind their fingerprint, amongst other biometric security features and allows them to have some protection. However, based on a recent discovery, we are getting another layer of security.
WhatsApp’s ability to lock individual chats behind biometrics and hide them could end up stirring controversy
Based on the information spotted by WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently working on a new feature that would let users lock and hide individual chats behind biometric security. Considering how almost all modern phones have one form or another of biometrics available, it seems like the feature would be available to everyone. This means you no longer rely on shoddy third-party apps for the proper solution.
You can have a look at the screenshot below.
As you can see in the screenshot above, WhatsApp on Android will let you lock the chat and keep it hidden behind a fingerprint lock. The feature was spotted in version 2.23.8.2. and is not currently available to everyone. We are not sure when the app will finally get this update, but it is good to see that the company is working on something of this caliber.
I do know that there are other smartphone manufacturers that allow you to lock apps behind biometrics, but this implementation is better since it is native to WhatsApp. Sadly, we do not know when this feature will finally be available to everyone, but considering how popular the platform is, we won’t be surprised if the company starts rolling it out.
Such a feature can be controversial and good at the same time, especially when it comes to protecting your sensitive chats from intruders. As with all the feature reveals, we would suggest that you take this with a pinch of salt because WhatsApp can simply end up scraping the feature altogether. We will keep you posted on whatever becomes of this feature. Also worth mentioning is that this feature was spotted in an Android beta version. However, it is more than likely that this would also make its way over to iOS.
