West Shore district has kids learn at home because of transportation issue – PennLive

The West Shore School District announced several remote learning days throughout September because the district is unable to provide transportation to all of its students.

Different schools within the district will alternate remote learning days, where students join a teacher-led Zoom class.

The remote learning days are as follows:

  • Monday, Sept. 18 – Red Land
  • Tuesday, Sept. 19 – Cedar Cliff
  • Wednesday, Sept. 20 – Crossroads
  • Thursday, Sept. 21 – Red Land
  • Friday, Sept. 22 – Cedar Cliff
  • Monday, Sept. 25 – Red Land
  • Tuesday, September 26 – Cedar Cliff
  • Wednesday, Sept. 27 – Crossroads
  • Thursday, Sept. 28 – Red Land
  • Friday, Sept. 29 – Cedar Cliff

Red Land, Cedar Cliff and Crossroads were chosen for remote learning days because they were not affected by heat-related issues earlier this school year that also had kids stay home for remote learning.

Breakfast and lunch are available to all students, even on remote learning days, but must be eaten in the schools’ cafeterias. Schools will let parents know when their cafeterias will be open.

Students who attend specific special education classes will report to their respective schools for in-person instruction. The school district will notify the families of special education students about technology.

Special education students who attend Hilltop Academy, New Story or another out-of-district school are not affected by the transportation issues.

Middle school classes will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:28 p.m., and certain middle school music ensembles will take place from 12:30-1 p.m.

All high school students in music ensembles will start classes at 9 a.m., but all other students will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The district is asking parents to consider driving their kids if possible as well as asking students to limit “inappropriate behavior” while on district buses. Parents are also reminded that adults are not allowed to enter the bus while it is carrying children, which the statement said has happened multiple times this year.

The district’s superintendent said there is no timeline for how long the transportation issues will last.
