Wearing a wristwatch

It is almost always overlooked how wearing a wristwatch is one of the most exclusive, niche habits left in a world that has become obsessed by functionality. This unassuming accessory assumes that functionality cannot be the end all and be all.

The wristwatch is no longer a necessity. The corner of a mobile phone screen can do the temporal job of measuring time. But the very beauty and pleasure of watch-wearing is that it is not a necessity but an ornamentation. As a silent companion, it adds elegance the way a glance can add a regal quality to a pearl-earringed face.

A wristwatch is a susurration of every passing moment. This is regardless of whether your timepiece has a second hand purring or not across the dial. A watch is also a craft to be cherished, an engineering marvel resting on your wrist. It is the time on your hand.

The machine marks this time against your very being by forming a bridge – a strap between amorphous time and definite you. As owner of your wrist and the watch that sits on it, you are able to mark time even when you’re not looking at the time.
