We need to improve agriculture through science, tech – Nyako – Daily Trust

A former governor of Adamawa State, Muritala Nyako has said that it was time farmers in the country improve agriculture through science and technology.

Speaking in Abuja during the signing of an MOU between All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) with the association of Deans of Agriculture in Nigeria and the unveiling of Agrivest reality TV challenge show, he said there was the need for a backup of science and technology to understand agriculture.

According to him, agriculture needed to be improved in such a way that it would generate profit and resources and as well feed everyone. He said all over the world, agriculture was given top priority above education.

He said, “Hunger is making everyone misbehave. All over the world, agriculture is a priority. Across the world, only few people go to school, else, the rest have been involved in agriculture related matters.”

Speaking at the event, AFAN president, Dr Farouk Rabiu Mudi said the MoU between the agriculture stakeholders on an agriculture reality TV show was to support the youths who are interested in agriculture and agribusiness as well as to create self sufficiency in food security.

He said when youths who have the energy and resilience are interested in agribusiness, there would be self-sufficiency in food security.

He said the Agrivest reality TV challenge  was a comprehensive Agribusiness training, advocacy and mentoring programme delivered on an entertainment platform.

On his part, Dr Emmanuel Abuhson, a member of the team called on the youths to look at agriculture from a business and marketing perspective.
