W. Golf: Bond Named To National Coach Of The Year Watch List – Florida State University

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Amy Bond, the winningest women’s golf coach in school history, has been named to the Division I National Coach of the Year presented by Golf Pride Watch List.  She is one of 24 finalists for the national award which will be presented during the NCAA Championship Finals at the Grayhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. (May 19-24).

Bond will lead her team, which finished in fifth place at the 2023 NCAA Raleigh Regional Championships, into the NCAA Championship Finals as the No. 8 seed in the tournament.  The Seminoles are one of 30 teams nationally who will play for the NCAA title.

“We began the season as one of 266 teams in the country who all had the goal of getting to this point; now we are one of 30 teams playing for the National Championship at the site of the finals,” said Bond.  “To still be playing in the third week of May is a testament to how hard the girls have worked, and I am so happy for them.  At Florida State, our goal every year is to get to the National Finals and give ourselves an opportunity to win a National Championship.”

Bond has led Florida State into the regional round of the NCAA Championship in 17 consecutive tournaments and to the NCAA Championship Finals in seven consecutive tournaments – both school records.  The Seminoles have won NCAA Regional championships in two of the last three years (at Louisville in 2021 and at Tallahassee in 2022) and have finished in the top five in each of the last six regional championships.

Florida State has been ranked among the top teams in the nation throughout the season.  The Seminoles began the year ranked No. 6 nationally in the Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll and have been ranked in the top-15 throughout the year.  The Seminoles moved into the nation’s top-12 following a second place finish at the spring-season opening IJGA Collegiate Invitational and remained in the top 12 for the length of the spring season.

Florida State is seeded No. 8 in the 2023 NCAA Championship Finals and are ranked No. 9 nationally by Golfstat and Golfweek Magazine entering the NCAA Championship Finals.  The finals consist of four rounds of stroke play (72 holes) and three rounds of match to determine the individual and team champions.

Bond has led Florida State to two team championships (at the Schooner Fall Classic and the Florida State Match Up), along with nine top-five finishes in 11 matches this year.  The Seminoles have earned four consecutive top-five team finishes entering the NCAA Championship Finals.

Bond is a National Coach of the Year finalist for the third consecutive year.  She is one of just six coaches who have been named to the Coach of the Year watch list in each of the last three seasons.
