In a message to her vast following of 275 million on Instagram, she cleverly referenced her 2014 hit “Shake It Off” by saying, “Voters gonna vote!” She urged registered voters in Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia to exercise their right to vote.
Swift also emphasised the importance of being informed about the candidates and issues before heading to the polls. She directed her followers to visit Vote.org, which offers a “See What’s on Your Ballot” tool to provide a preview of what will be on their ballots.
Taylor Swift has an ongoing partnership with Vote.org, a non-profit, non-partisan organization focused on voter registration and increasing voter participation, especially among underserved and underrepresented communities. According to Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org, Swift’s advocacy has resulted in substantial increases in website traffic and tens of thousands of new voter registrations.
In a previous Instagram post on National Voter Registration Day, Swift’s call for voter registration led to nearly 40,000 new voter registrations on the Vote.org website.
As Swift’s latest song, “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault),” from the re-recorded album 1989 (Taylor’s Version), claims the top spot on the Hot 100 chart, the artist is also leading with 20 nominations at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards. The BBMAs will be streamed on November 19 via BBMAs.watch, as well as on Billboard and the BBMAs’ social media platforms. Taylor Swift continues to use her massive platform to advocate for active and ongoing voter participation.
