Vision 2047: India’s plans for the telecom sector


Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her interim budget speech that India aims to become a developed nation by 2047. Various ministries and departments have firmed up plans to achieve the target.
A developed and self-sufficient telecom sector is key to achieving these ambitions.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has firmed up its vision for 2047 and policies will be framed to meet the following targets it has set, according to people in the know.

The government has been formulating policies to achieve its objectives for 2047.
Schemes such as production-linked incentives for telecom equipment manufacturing and promotion of research and development in the telecom sector — on 6G, for instance — are ongoing.

The DoT is supporting startups working in the sector and staying in step with new technologies, including quantum communications.
