CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia freshman forward Stephen Annor Gyamfi was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, and North Carolina sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Cordes was tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Annor Gyamfi recorded his second brace of the season in a 3-0 road victory over Virginia Tech on Friday. The native of Accra, Ghana, scored the first goal of the match just two minutes in, marking the second time Annor has scored an opening goal inside of five minutes played. It also was his fifth game-winner of the season to lead the ACC. He has scored 10 goals this season, including seven in ACC play to lead the league. He is the first Cavalier to hit double-digit goals in a single season since Daryl Dike in 2019.
Cordes posted two shutouts, as the Tar Heels went 1-0-1. A native of Denver, Colorado, Cordes posted two saves on Tuesday in a scoreless draw with William & Mary. He then halted three Louisville shots on Sunday, in the 2-0 UNC league victory. He has now recorded five clean sheets in the past seven matches and currently ranks first in the nation in save percentage (.909) and second nationally in goals against average (.342).
The regular season concludes Friday night with six matches. ACC Network will broadcast the North Carolina at Virginia match at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
