Upcoming model will be best-selling car brand’s FINAL EVER petrol motor in the UK… ahead of full switch to EVs

A MOTOR to be released by Volkswagen next year will be their final ever petrol-powered new car that they release in the UK.

The best-selling German brand is preparing for a full switch to EVs, and are culling their petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid cars.

That means the next-gen T-Roc crossover will be their last all-new petrol model.

According to AutoExpress, the new T-Roc – which is set to be released in 2025 – will borrow much of its engine and interior tech from the Tiguan.

Their spy pics suggest it will have a distinctive front with swept-back headlights, while further back it adopts a coupe-like appearance from the side.

They also suggest the base version will feature a 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor with either 114bhp or 148bhp.

So far, the T-Roc has only been available with a petrol or diesel engine – ranging from the 1.0-litre through to the 2.0-litre turbo in the high-end iteration.

At present, the T-Roc is placed between the larger Tiguan and the T-Cross among VW‘s range of motors – and has been a popular model since its debut in 2017.

Indeed, last year, it was their best selling motor in both Europe and North America.

VW also make a little-known Cabriolet version of the T-Roc, although earlier this year it was announced the drop top edition would be discontinued when the updated version is launched in 2025.

The soft-top crossover – which itself was released in 2020 – was Europe’s second best-selling convertible last year, and its loss will leave VW without a soft-top model across its entire range.

This comes as VW revealed in May that it will be scrapping its entire range of performance EVs – after just over two years.

However, that doesn’t mean the end of its sporty electric motors, with some of its most iconic models still set for the EV treatment.

And elsewhere, a spooky car graveyard packed with dozens of iconic 60s Volkswagen Beetles has been discovered in an abandoned mine.
