University security polices approved | Clemson News – Clemson News

A pair of policies concerning Clemson University security have recently been approved. The new Electronic Mail (Email) Policy and the updated Electronic Surveillance Policy have both been reviewed by the Executive Leadership Team and approved by President Clements.

Email Policy

The University recognized the need to establish an Electronic Mail (Email) Policy. The policy is ready to be shared across all the University’s communities.

How the Policy Was Made

The Office of Information Security worked with stakeholders across campus, including but not limited to the Academic Technology Council, Clemson Alumni and student government, to understand various user needs, while developing a policy to manage the various risks associated with University email accounts.

Resources

  • Questions and requests for further information regarding the policy can be directed to the Office of Information Security at security@clemson.edu
  • Contact the policy program manager, Monique Everroad, moniquw@clemson.edu to schedule presentation regarding this policy.

Electronic Surveillance Policy

A newly revised Electronic Surveillance Policy establishes governance and guidelines for the installation, use and monitoring of any electronic surveillance technology installed and controlled by Clemson University. Formerly the Video Surveillance Policy, the Electronic Surveillance Policy updates language and incorporates best practices to address the use of this equipment, the retention, storage, access and dissemination of recordings, coverage areas, financial responsibility for the technology, recourse for noncompliance and exceptions.

It is the responsibility of Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) to establish and maintain the approval process for and operational guidelines of electronic surveillance technologies, including installation and continued use. All electronic surveillance technologies must adhere to all guidelines established by CUPD. Departments are required to request and receive approval from the Chief of Police for installation, use, or monitoring of desired or required electronic surveillance technologies.

Resources

  • Any Clemson building or department desiring to add new electronic surveillance technology should contact the Police Department’s Office of Physical Security at 864-656-5251 or jgowan@clemson.edu. Physical Security Staff will collaborate with TigerOne Project Management to initiate a plan.
