U.S. shares lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.05%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the declined 0.05%, while the index fell 0.28%, and the index declined 0.56%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:), which rose 0.63% or 1.19 points to trade at 190.52 at the close. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:) added 0.60% or 0.88 points to end at 146.61 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) was up 0.56% or 0.21 points to 37.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:), which lost 1.84% or 0.49 points to trade at 26.11 in late trade. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) declined 0.90% or 2.39 points to end at 263.19 and Dow Inc (NYSE:) shed 0.71% or 0.39 points to 54.84.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Boston Scientific Corp (NYSE:) which rose 2.72% to 57.81, Molina Healthcare Inc (NYSE:) which was up 1.47% to settle at 361.65 and Hershey Co (NYSE:) which gained 1.32% to close at 186.54.

The worst performers were Albemarle Corp (NYSE:) which was down 3.34% to 144.44 in late trade, Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 2.65% to settle at 11.38 and PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 2.65% to 61.41 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sentage Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 182.49% to 5.00, China SXT Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 91.79% to settle at 3.97 and Qilian International Holding Group Ltd (NASDAQ:) which gained 66.59% to close at 0.73.

The worst performers were Global Mofy Metaverse Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 49.91% to 5.58 in late trade, Cue Health Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 42.23% to settle at 0.16 and MOBIX LABS, INC (NASDAQ:) which was down 34.42% to 4.02 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2043 to 841 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2511 fell and 918 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.16% to 12.45.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.53% or 11.10 to $2,072.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.70% or 0.50 to hit $71.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.08 to trade at $77.07 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 1.10, while USD/JPY fell 0.26% to 141.02.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 101.06.
