U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.17%



Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the rose 0.17% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Fresnillo PLC (LON:), which rose 2.93% or 19.50 points to trade at 685.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:) added 2.85% or 72.50 points to end at 2,620.50 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:) was up 2.55% or 185.00 points to 7,455.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:), which lost 2.20% or 8.50 points to trade at 377.80 in late trade. Hiscox Ltd (LON:) declined 2.17% or 24.00 points to end at 1,080.00 and Beazley PLC (LON:) shed 1.48% or 12.50 points to 833.50.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 839 to 821 and 633 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.86% or 23.59 to $2,725.11 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.03% or 0.80 to hit $76.59 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.80% or 0.65 to trade at $80.14 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.86% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.15% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.95% at 108.17.
