Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Airtel Africa Plc (LON:), which rose 3.13% or 3.30 points to trade at 108.60 at the close. Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:) added 2.41% or 100.00 points to end at 4,245.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:) was up 2.04% or 2.55 points to 127.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Frasers Group PLC (LON:), which lost 3.35% or 21.00 points to trade at 605.50 in late trade. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:) declined 2.81% or 195.00 points to end at 6,755.00 and Entain PLC (LON:) shed 2.49% or 17.60 points to 690.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 916 to 801 and 705 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.53% or 14.01 to $2,631.09 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.07% or 0.74 to hit $68.72 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.09% or 0.79 to trade at $71.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 107.80.
