To combat the effects of climate change the Tea Research Association (TRA) Tocklai has come up with the first climate-smart tea seed stock -TSS 2. The new seed variety can withstand high temperatures and the new tea seed stock can produce high-quality teas as well. This new seed stock will help the tea industry to
prepare itself for the negative effects of climate change.

In her address at the annual general meeting of TRA Nayantara Palchoudhuri chairperson of the association highlighted the TRA’s commitment to advancing tea research and innovation. “This past year has been filled with both challenges in terms of reduced funding to TRA and climate change as we continue to uphold our mission for the betterment of the global tea industry,” she said.In the AGM, the microbial formulations developed by TRA in collaboration with its partner Varsha Biotech under the BIRAC project were released to the industry. The microbial formulations were made to reduce the excessive reliance on pesticides. The Central Insecticides Board has approved the TRA formulation in July 2024 and the same was launched at the 60th AGM.
