7. Amazon Devices and Services event
Amazon confirmed in July that its fall Devices and Services event would be held in its new Virginia headquarters, which officially opened in June this year.
“The Devices & Services team has already had a very busy year, and now that Amazon’s HQ2 is officially open, it only feels right to gather there in a few months to share a bit more of what we’ve been working on. Mark your calendar for 9/20 for some news from us!,” David Limp, the SVP of Amazon Devices, wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing the event.
Possible announcements include new Echo device(s), Alexa upgrades (generative AI anyone?), a new Fire TV device, and more. Previous fall product announcements from Amazon include the Kindle Scribe, the 5th generation Echo Dot, the 3rd generation Fire TV Cube, the Fire TV Omni QLED Series, the Alexa Voice Remote Pro, and more.
This could be the last Devices and Service event under Limp, as he’s set to retire soon after 13 and a half years at the company.
Location: Amazon HQ2, Crystal City, Arlington, VA
Date(s): September 20, 2023
Attendance: In-person
8. Microsoft Surface Event
Microsoft will hold a “special event,” according to the invites sent last month. The timing coincides with Microsoft’s fall Surface event, where the company launches the namesake line of new PCs.
While unconfirmed, we cannot rule out the launch of devices such as Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Laptop 6, and Surface Go 4 at the event, not to mention the introduction of the 23H2 update for Windows 11. Logic dictates that Microsoft will also launch the Surface Pro 10, following last year’s Surface Pro 9.
However, what can possibly make the 2023 edition of the event “special” is a focus on AI upgrades, specifically Copilot, to Windows.
Location: New York City
Date(s): September 21, 2023
Attendance: In-person (invite only), watch online for free here
9. Mobile World Congress 2023 Las Vegas
The Las Vegas edition of the Mobile World Congress or MWC 2023 cuts across four key themes, namely 5G Acceleration, the Age of AI, Enterprise Mobility, and Digital Everything. The event will have 350 exhibitors in a massive 297,000 sq. ft location showcasing the latest connectivity solutions.
More than 275 speakers, including 13 telecom titans for keynote sessions, will converge in Las Vegas to address thousands of attendees. Don’t miss the Industry City, a dedicated conference program that explores Sports & Entertainment, FinTech, Manufacturing, and Smart Mobility.
More importantly, MWC 2023 Las Vegas also enables startups to have a say through the LevelUp pitch sessions at The HUB Startup Stage during the telecom conference. Startups also have funding opportunities through the Keiretsu Forum Socal Investor Summit on day 2 of MWC 2023 Las Vegas.
Location: Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV
Date(s): September 26 – 28, 2023
Attendance: In-person, requires registration
10. Meta Connect 2023
Meta Connect is the social networking giant’s chance to showcase its product roadmap for the long term. While Meta’s focus during Meta Connect 2022 lay primarily on the Metaverse, the company should launch a new device that propels its Metaverse ambitions.
This device could be the virtual reality headset Meta Quest 3, its “most powerful headset yet.” However, Meta’s two recent updates to Horizon Worlds suggest it is also gaining steam on the immersive software front.
It is unlikely that the company will launch yet another social media platform following Threads.
The company’s fortunes are on an upswing again as the market gains confidence after a turbulent 2022. Meta’s share price surged 172% year-to-date.
Following CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote, the conference will have a Developer State of the Union and multiple breakout sessions on AI and immersive technologies.
Location: Meta Headquarters, Menlo Park, CA
Date(s): September 27 – 28, 2023 (first two-day event since 2019)
Attendance: Will be streamed online on Meta’s Facebook page; Developer State of the Union to be streamed on Meta for Developers Facebook page
