7. Amazon Devices and Services event

Amazon confirmed in July that its fall Devices and Services event would be held in its new Virginia headquarters, which officially opened in June this year.

“The Devices & Services team has already had a very busy year, and now that Amazon’s HQ2 is officially open, it only feels right to gather there in a few months to share a bit more of what we’ve been working on. Mark your calendar for 9/20 for some news from us!,” David Limp, the SVP of Amazon Devices, wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing the event.

Possible announcements include new Echo device(s), Alexa upgrades (generative AI anyone?), a new Fire TV device, and more. Previous fall product announcements from Amazon include the Kindle Scribe, the 5th generation Echo Dot, the 3rd generation Fire TV Cube, the Fire TV Omni QLED Series, the Alexa Voice Remote Pro, and more.

This could be the last Devices and Service event under Limp, as he’s set to retire soon after 13 and a half years at the company.

Location: Amazon HQ2, Crystal City, Arlington, VA

Date(s): September 20, 2023

Attendance: In-person

8. Microsoft Surface Event

Microsoft will hold a “special event,” according to the invites sent last month. The timing coincides with Microsoft’s fall Surface event, where the company launches the namesake line of new PCs.

While unconfirmed, we cannot rule out the launch of devices such as Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Laptop 6, and Surface Go 4 at the event, not to mention the introduction of the 23H2 update for Windows 11. Logic dictates that Microsoft will also launch the Surface Pro 10, following last year’s Surface Pro 9.

However, what can possibly make the 2023 edition of the event “special” is a focus on AI upgrades, specifically Copilot, to Windows.
