‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’: Netflix unveils trailer for anime series. Here’s what we know so far

Netflix has released the first trailer for “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” a new anime series featuring the voice of Hayley Atwell (known for her role in “Agent Carter”).

This project was initially announced by Netflix in early 2021 as part of their collaboration with Legendary to expand the Skull Island and Tomb Raider universes with two anime series.

The Tomb Raider anime series will follow the Square Enix video game and continue the story after the reboot trilogy, focusing on Lara Croft as she explores new territories. Netflix revealed the show’s premiere date in 2024 during their inaugural DROP 01 event, an online showcase of their upcoming animated content.

“Tomb Raider” has grown into a global franchise, spanning movies, merchandise and comic books. This Netflix-Legendary project marks Lara Croft’s debut in an animated series.

In 2001, Angelina Jolie portrayed the iconic heroine in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and its 2003 sequel, “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life.” In 2018, Alicia Vikander took on the role in a new film adaptation and will reprise it in the upcoming sequel, written and directed by Misha Green from “Lovecraft Country.”

The anime series will be scripted by Tasha Huo, known for her work on “The Witcher: Blood Origin” and “Red Sonja.” Executive producers include Dmitri M. Johnson, the founder and CEO of dj2 Entertainment, recognized for “Sonic the Hedgehog,” along with Stephan Bugaj and Howard Bliss. Jacob Robinson, under his company Tractor Pants, will also serve as an executive producer for the series.
