Three ways to have extra storage in your kitchen – even if it’s a tight squeeze

A PANTRY or larder cupboard is top of a kitchen wish-list.

A fifth of home cooks say having one is the “most desirable” kitchen feature, according to Wickes.

For those without the room, try these ideas instead.

MAKE SPACE: If your kitchen is already a squeeze, you might have to think outside the box.

An understairs cupboard is often underused or badly designed, so consider installing shelves and crates to free up space in the room where you cook.

If you can find a corner in your kitchen or close by for a bookcase you could turn that into an eye-catching storage unit.

Give it a lick of paint or add some trendy scalloped trim, which you can find on etsy.com, then get some stylish storage for your dried foods such as pasta, rice and flour.

LARDER LOOKS: Get the swanky pantry look with a set of six glass canisters with wooden lids in different sizes from Asda, £16.50. Or B&M has single jars from only £2.

You can also soak the labels off any old jar.

The pretty ones from Bonne Maman spreads look gorgeous with their red and white lids — use them to store small items such as seeds and nuts. Get matching labels for all the items by searching “DIY pantry labels” on Etsy.

GADGET GARAGE: According to research by Wickes, many people want the space for storing their small appliances, like air fryers and slow cookers.

So get rid of any gadgets you rarely use then store the rest according to how often you use them.

Least used items can be stored in high cupboards and Dunelm’s £6 fold-up stool will give you easy access.

Put heavier items on a wheeled plant pot mover, like the Akerbar, £5 at Ikea, that can be rolled out.

And place those you use every day on a three-tier wheeled trolley, like the one in blush from The Range, £22.99. You can wheel it to wherever you need it, then store it out of the way.
