We all rely on our smartphones daily to communicate, take photos, pay for our weekly shop and navigate using maps apps, but gosh, do they get expensive. When it comes to getting a new phone, it’s always a good idea to shop around for the best deals, especially as some handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra can cost more than £1,000.
We’ve spotted an excellent deal on the latest mid-range Google Pixel Android phone, the Google Pixel 8a. Originally released in 2024, the Pixel 8a is a very good device that costs less than most of the competition but still delivers on performance and camera, the latter of which is just as good for photos as the pricier Pixel 9 or the iPhone 16.
Right now, Giffgaff is offering the Pixel 8a on a 24 month contract for the very low price of just £13.30 per month to pay off the cost of the phone with a £10 upfront cost. All in, that comes to £329.20 overall over the two year contract, which is amazing considering the RRP of the Pixel 8a when bought directly from Google is £449.
For an extra £10 per month for 18 months, £180 in total, you can get 25GB of monthly mobile data with unlimited calls and texts. That means overall you’re committing to paying £509.20 in total, as Giffgaff only requires you to commit to 18 months of its mobile plan. After that, you’ll still be paying the £13.30 for another six months in order to pay off the cost of the phone. You can then choose to continue to pay the £10 per month for mobile service, or switch to another plan or provider as the handset is unlocked.
This £509.20 total spend is only a shade over the £499 cost of the device on its own but gets you more than enough monthly data to use for all your mobile needs. One of the perks of Giffgaff is the monthly plan payments never go up. Other mobile providers raise their contract plan prices annually, but with Giffgaff you’ll always know how much you’ll spend overall with no nasty bill shock surprises.
Just make sure you can afford to make the regular monthly payments for the duration of the contract before committing to it.
We reviewed the Pixel 8a on its release, calling it “the easiest phone in the world to recommend”. That stands true today thanks to the Android 15 software, good looks and pocketable size, as well as the great cameras. It also gets updates until 2031, and you really don’t miss out on much compared to the pricier £799 Pixel 9.
If you prefer to buy the Pixel 8a outright today, Giffgaff is offering the phone for £329 upfront when you also sign up to one of Giffgaff’s monthly price plans.
