With a large attendance of young people interested in technologies, the first day of the Yucatán i6 2024 Congress began today at the Siglo XXI Convention Center where global trends in science, technology, and innovation are present.
In this third edition, according to the Secretary of Research, Innovation and Higher Education (SIIES), Mauricio Cámara Leal, they expect the attendance of 22,000 young people from universities and basic education schools in the State, although among the attendance were university students from Bacalar, Quintana Roo.
Since its opening, at 10 a.m., the i6 rooms have been filled with the exhibition of a wide variety of technology, workshops, conferences, robotic competitions, 3D designs, and interaction with artificial intelligence robots from Steren and the Anáhuac University Mayab. There were also virtual reality video games and various activities where technology, creativity, and innovation were present. For example, students from the Mérida Technological Institute developed the cultivation of edible white mushrooms from marine sargassum, which at the same time serves as high-performance livestock forage after agricultural use.
Cámara Leal recalled that this technological teaching project arose three years ago with the idea of transmitting technological knowledge to university students through master conferences, but Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal asked him to structure a project that, with the support of the academy, the initiative private and the SIIES this i6 Congress emerged, which is unique in the southeast and with great participation.
In its first edition in 2022, it had an attendance of 11,000 young people, in 2023 it was 22,000 and in 2024 they expect an equal or greater number. In these three years, around 300 conferences have been given and prizes have been awarded to the young winners of the various contests for more than $3 million.
The cutting of the ribbon and the inaugural declaration was led by the person in charge of the governor’s office, María Fritz Sierra, who highlighted the presence of the special guests at the 16th Congress, Dr. Rosario Marín, a Mexican migrant who was the first treasurer of the United States government in the administration of President George Bush and Yucatecan Frank Cámara, former director of intellectual property at Microsoft Corporate. Frank Cámara is originally from Oxkutzcab, Yucatán, and currently gives conferences on technology around the world.
