Tesco recalls Christmas stuffing mix because of ‘possible presence of moths’

Christmas dinner can be divisive: turkey or beef, are yorkshire puddings allowed, cranberry sauce or bread sauce? But most people would be unified around rejecting a side helping of moths with their festive fare.

Tesco has recalled its Finest range’s apple and cranberry stuffing mix because of the “possible presence of moths”.

The UK’s biggest supermarket has issued a recall notice via the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which is advising consumers not to eat the product and instead return the 130g packet to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

The stuffing batch has a best before date of September 2024.

The “product recall” notice is headlined “foreign body contamination” and reads: “We are recalling a single batch of Tesco Finest apple & cranberry stuffing mix due to the possible presence of moths, which makes the product unfit for human consumption.”

Under the subheading “what should you do?” it continues: “Please do not consume this product and return it to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.

“Tesco apologies to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

The moths may have got into the stuffing mix through one of its raw ingredients, the PA news agency reported.

Tesco has been contacted for comment.
