Tesco has now apologised and says a technical glitch was to blame for the goods not showing up at shoppers’ doors.

Dozens took to social media to blast the supermarket for its lack of communication after the Sunday morning deliveries didn’t turn up.

One shopper seethed that he’d woken up “extra early” in anticipation of his 8am delivery, which he said was then canned “without any real reason being given”.

Another said they got a notification to say the Tesco lorry was on its way with their delivery, only for it to be cancelled 20 minutes later.

Other customers slammed the experience as “appalling”, while one mum said she was “furious” as she had run out of nappies and felt she couldn’t leave home to pop out and grab more.

Many said their orders were canned just 20 minutes before they were set to arrive, and others said it took hours before they managed to get answers out of the supermarket.

Tesco said: “We’re really sorry that due to a technical issue, we had to cancel some online orders today.

“Our technical team have worked around the clock and have now fixed it.”

“Customers who were impacted have been contacted directly. We apologise again for the inconvenience.”

The supermarket said customers should have got their orders by this afternoon, but if they hadn’t they needed to get back in touch to rebook orders in the coming days.

Meanwhile, The Sun revealed there are a number of ways you can save money if you’re regularly getting your shopping delivered.

Doing your food shop online can work out cheaper as some people find it helps them stick to a budget and avoid impulse spending.

But there are other tips and tricks you can use to get an even bigger saving on your weekly shop.

Deborah Shanahan, deals and features editor at MoneySavingExpert, said: “Supermarkets spend a lot of time and money trying to get you to spend on impulse purchases dotted at strategic spots around the store.

“So one of the main advantages of doing your grocery shop online is your ability to create a budget, meal plan and shopping list and really stick to it, without the temptation to overspend.”
