Sweaty Betty has swung into a loss following a drop in sales.

The posh sportswear retailer said business was slightly worse than in the previous financial year as customers tightened the purse strings during the cost-of-living crisis.

Sweaty Betty is best known for its expensive yoga and running leggings which are favourites of celebrities – the cheapest pair starts at £60.

Sweaty Betty, which was bought by US group Wolverine Worldwide in 2021, posted a loss of £5.1 million in the year to January 2023.

This compares with a profit of almost £14 million the year before, according to accounts for Sweaty Betty Ltd.

The drop was partly due to a reorganisation of its clothes-buying operations in North America, though sales also slid by almost 9 per cent to £168 million.
