Super Mario Bros. Wonder is here, and fans who have been waiting for a new 2D platformer from the plumber have a lot to be excited about. As I lay out in my review, Mario Wonder is one of Nintendo’s best 2D platformers since their heyday in the 8- and 16-bit eras. Of course, as with all Mario platformers, the game is packed with secrets, collectibles, and daunting late-game challenges.
Note: The following guide contains some non-story SPOILERS.
One thing you’ll notice when you boot up Super Mario Bros. Wonder is that your save file has room for six medals. Getting all of these means you’ve achieved true 100 percent completion of the game, so how do you acquire all of them? The game itself doesn’t spell it out, but don’t worry, we have the answer for you. Here are the six things you need to achieve to complete your Mario Wonder save file…
- Defeat Bowser and roll credits – Simple one. Just “beat” the game.
- Collect all Wonder Seeds – These are the equivalent of Power Stars or Moons in past games. Most regular stages have 2, but some have 3. Meanwhile, more simple “Break Time” challenges only have 1.
- Collect all purple 10-coins – In additional to regular coins, Mario Wonder also has purple coins which can be used as currency in shops. Every course has 3 larger 10-coins to collect.
- Hit the top of every flag pole – This one is exactly what it says, jump to the top of every flag pole in the game.
- Collect every badge – Badges can be purchased from Poplin Shops dotted around the map, or earned from special Badge Challenge courses. One of these badges can only be earned by besting the final Special World course, which is very hard and can only be unlocked by beating the game. You can get more info on how to unlock Special World courses here.
- Collect every standee – When playing online, you can place these cardboard cutouts of the Mario gang in key places so other players can revive themselves. There are quite a lot to collect, but tracking them down isn’t hard – simply buy them from Poplin Shops. The standees will be doled out randomly, but stick to it and you’ll get them all.
And there you go – that’s how you earn all 6 medals and 100 percent the game! Trust me, it’s not an easy challenge, but you can do it with some perseverance.
