State pension payment date is changing this week – when will you get sum?

State pensioners could see their payments change this week due to the bank holiday for the King’s Coronation this weekend.

Payments are usually made earlier when bank holidays fall on a date that the payments usually would be made.

‌For some, the state pension will have been set to land in recipients’ bank accounts on May 8.‌

But due to the bank holiday, that payment will now be made on May 5.

Some people receiving their state pension will get the payment early.

As the cost of living crisis continues, many people will be budgeting their money to ensure they can keep up with rising bills so may be surprised when they see their payment a little earlier than expected.

Those who receive benefits such as Tax Credits will also receive their payments on Friday if it was due on Monday.

There are three bank holidays this month that people should be aware of.

State pension payment dates that will be affected include:

  • Early May Bank Holiday – May 1. Payments for this date will arrive on April 28
  • King Charles III’s coronation Bank Holiday – May 8. Payments for this date will arrive on May 5
  • Spring Bank Holiday – May 26. Payments for this date will arrive on May 29.

The state pension payments are usually paid straight into someone’s bank, building society or credit union account.

The state pension is usually paid every four weeks.

When someone claims the state pension they will be asked for their bank, building society or credit union account details.

If a person’s payment is late in arriving, they may want to check the date on their award notice and contact their bank before contacting the DWP.

State pension payments increased by 10.1 percent from April.

Those qualifying for a full new state pension receive £203.85 a week, while those on basic state pension receive £156.20.

The DWP has announced that millions of households on low incomes will receive further cost-of-living support worth up to £1,350 this year.

Eight million Britons on means-tested benefits will receive £900 in instalments from this Spring.

The money going directly to bank accounts in three payments, the DWP has said.‌

There will also be a separate £150 payment for more than six million people with disabilities.

There is an extra £300 for over eight million pensioners.
