Soaring tur prices: Here's why your favourite sambar or arhar dishes are going beyond reach


Traders want you to replace tur dal with other pulses such as masur, moong, chana and yellow peas to stem the rising prices. Retail prices of tur, also called arhar dal, have risen 27% in Delhi in the last one year and by 10% in the last six months, data with the consumer affairs ministry shows. The current price in Delhi is Rs 132/kg while the average price is Rs 119/kg . The increase in retail tur dal prices in Delhi is close to 60% in the past five years. Production has not kept pace with demand and the highest-selling dal’s wholesale price has shot up about 60%.
