A CAR expert has revealed the cars you could buy that will make you look richer than you are.
Matthew Goodwin from High Peak Autos has made five recommendations, picking some surprisingly cheap autos.
Drivers who want to be the toast of the town, but don’t have the funds, should look at buying one of these cars.
Matt picks the Mercedes S Class, any Maserati, any Range Rover, a Bentley Continental GT, and a Jaguar X351.
He also gives detailed reasons why each car meets his metric, starting with the Mercedes.
He says: “The S Class Mercedes has been the benchmark of the luxury car world since it was first released back in 1972.
“It is the daddy of the bunch.”
Matt thinks with a budget of £10,000 you can pick up a “decent” model that ran from 2006 to 2013.
He does advise purchasing a vehicle that has a good service history as they can cost to repair.
Matt’s next pick is any type of Maserati as “they’re all quite cheap to buy and make you look far richer than you actually are”.
The Gran Tourismo sells for £16,000, he says, with a V8 engine, good looks, and a famous badge.
“Nobody will know that this isn’t a £100,000 car.
“I think that’s just insane,” says Matt.
Thirdly, Matt suggests a Range Rover, calling himself a massive fan of the brand.
“They’ve been around since 1970 and been popular with anyone who is anyone ever since: Royalty, celebrities, captain of industry.”
For £10,000 he suggests buying a L322, a model running from 2002 to 2012.
Fourth, Matt picks the Bentley Continental GT which he says can be bought for £25,000.
Matt suggests keeping a rainy day fund for the Bentley, as there will be repairs and maintenance.
“Although the price is temptingly low, the running costs aren’t, so be warned.”
Finally, Matt picks the Jaguar X351 which was made from 2010 to 2019.
He says they’re great value for money and can be bought for £6,000.
But, he says the car will need servicing every 70,000 miles and drivers need to keep their fingers crossed for other things not to go wrong.
Fans of the video liked Matt’s suggestions and his warning the cars could cost them in the long term because of pricey repairs.
One says: “I like how you always give ‘real’ advice. ‘If you can only just afford it, you can’t afford it’. That’s sound advice and always keeping 20-30 per cent back for repairs is a must on older, luxury cars.”
Another says: “Title should be: “5 Cars That Make You Look Richer but bankrupt you.”
While a third says: “My old Renault megane makes me look poorer than I am.”
At the other end of the budget, Matt has also released another video about the best first cars for nervous new drivers.
And unlike cars that will make you look rich, Matt has also shared his thoughts on the most reliable cars you can buy for under £3k.
