Smbhav 2023: Amazon partners with India Post, Railways for international deliveries

The government has set a target of $200 billion for e-commerce exports over the next five years. Working on this agenda, Amazon India has announced a partnership with India Post that will allow small sellers to reach customers beyond the country’s borders.

Abhinav Singh, V-P of Operations, Amazon India, said that through this service, small sellers would be able to print shipping labels, drop their consignments at more than 600 docks and make it easier for them to sell their products abroad.

“In June, honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with our CEO Andy Jassy and during the conversation, the Prime Minister spoke about the importance of leveraging India’s colossal infrastructure pillars in the Air Force and Indian rivers to help accelerate the growth of e-commerce in India. This collaboration is a step in that direction and is headed towards making for global commerce experts,” he said at Amazon Smbhav Summit in the capital on Thursday.

Smbhav 2023 brings together industry leaders and policymakers to discuss various ways to improve the prospects of small and medium businesses.
Vineet Pandey, Secretary, Department of Posts, said the cross-border platform would ensure sellers get end-to-end solutions. “This will open up new avenues for SMEs to expand globally by showcasing their products. We’ll be also doing handloading, sharing information, exchanging guidance through Amazon global platform. One of the challenges of international trade has been navigating the complexities of customs values and regulations. This partnership also aims to simplify those issues,” he added.Jaya Varma Sinha, Member Operations & Business Development, Railway Board, said Amazon India’s partnership with Indian Railways would provide a wide gamut of parcel services for small sellers through the online platform and physically, at the offices. “There are various scales on which transport can be booked based on the category of the train that it is being carried on, and the transaction structure necessary. With this, we hope to significantly enhance the logistics and supply chain efficiency of e-commerce businesses and also provide cost-effective, eco-friendly and reliable services. This also comes with several value additions, including reduced travel time and decreased transportation costs,” she said.
