Sleep Token’s ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ came out top of the pile on Spotify last year, becoming the most-streamed metal album on the platform in 2023.
The anonymous band’s genre-bending third record helped propel the band to even greater heights, as they achieved their first ever Top 5 album, headlined festivals and played a truly memorable Wembley show.
And, it turns out, they had a pretty solid year when it came to streaming numbers too, with ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ outranking every other metal album when it came to their popularity on Spotify.
As the most-streamed album on platform, ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ even pipped Metallica’s ‘72 Seasons’ to the post, which had been released a whole month before – which, considering the longevity of James Hetfield and co. is not bad going at all.
The album’s most popular track on Spotify, ‘The Summoning’, has almost 92 million streams alone; by comparison, the most popular track on ‘72 Seasons’ has just two-thirds of that (62 million).
Per month, ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ saw 3,131,019 monthly listeners on Spotify, totalling at 357,324,681 streams.
And whilst there’s much more to life than streams, you can see why given the impact they’re making in the scene, we named Sleep Token Best British Artist as part of our Rock Sound Awards 2023.
Lorna Shore’s Will Ramos, a longtime Sleep Token fan, wrote in the issue about the first time seeing the band play, at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival, and the impact it had on him, writing:
“That’s where it started to set in how freaking massive Sleep Token were becoming.
“They’re one of the biggest metal bands that I’m aware of right now, and there were so many people watching that set.
“They refer to their live shows as rituals, their fans are the congregation, and the stage as a place of worship.
“It’s something that could easily seem tacky if a band did it with little consideration for the details, but they’re so committed to what they do.”
