Sky TV users told huge free content upgrade is coming ‘soon’ but you might miss out

Some lucky Sky users could be in for a treat. The company has confirmed that a recently relaunched streaming service is coming to some of its devices and it will bring “thousands of hours of entertainment” to living rooms without paying a penny extra. The boost is all thanks to the fully refreshed U platform coming to Sky. For those not in the know, the popular UKTV service recently switched its name to U in a bid to align all of its channels.

The update has been applied to its website, app and all of its channels such as Dave (now called U&Dave, W (now U&W, Yesterday (now U&Yesterday) and Drama (now U&Drama).

Thanks to the Sky TV update, users will also soon be able to launch the new application and access endless things to watch such as Top Gear, Would I Lie To You?, Birds of a Feather, Bangers and Cash and Gavin & Stacey.

The only issue for some is that the U app won’t be coming to Sky Q at launch with only Stream and Glass customers getting the content boost.

“The U app, formerly UKTV, is launching on both Sky Glass and Stream soon,” Sky explained in an update.

“It’s free to use and features thousands of hours of entertainment from TV channels U&Dave, U&Drama, U&W and U&Yesterday.”

So when will you see the changes and get access to all of this new content?

Sky has confirmed that it is coming soon although it also appears that there will be a delay in rolling it to homes.

In its most recent update, Sky said: “Thank you for your feedback. Following discussions with the relevant product team, we’ve been informed that the U app launch has been delayed. We will let you know once it becomes available.”

Hopefully, U will go live in the coming months – we’ll bring you an update as soon as we hear more.

Speaking about the transition, Penny Brough, Chief Marketing Officer, UKTV, said: “The launch of U on 16th July is an important step for UKTV, defining our age of transformation. U will present our viewers with an extraordinary range of free quality content, allowing them to connect the dots between the streaming service and our family of TV channels.”
