SIMSBURY, CT — Local officials Wednesday appropriated some $70,000 for high-tech upgrades that will help the Simsbury Police Department catch the bad guys.
The Simsbury Board of Selectmen unanimously approved appropriatin the cash from what is called a “Congressionally Directed Spending Request,” federal funding that came with assistance from U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
According to town officials, Simsbury Police Chief Nicholas Boulter and Simsbury IT Manager Rick Bazzano want to start a project called “Simsbury Police Tech 2022.”
The aim is to purchase, train on and utilize updated, high-tech computer equipment connected to law enforcement activities and operating the department.
In addition, the technology upgrades will include security camera enhancements at the police department and Simsbury Town Hall, as well as more dash cameras to be fitted into fleet vehicles.
Simsbury officials say the comprehensive technology upgrade package will, actually, result in reductions in operating costs.
