The first session of the SIDBI MSME Conclave will start from Indore on January 9, 2024. The MSME Summit aims to catalyse the next wave of growth opportunities, foster knowledge exchange, enable networking and help to tackle challenges, for sustainable growth in Indian MSMEs.
The SIDBI MSME Conclave in Bhubaneswar will host fireside chats and panel discussions with stakeholders and industry leaders on topics ranging from building a startup hub and innovation & collaboration in the MSME clusters in Odisha. The MSME conclave will also see a special address by Saswat Mishra, Principal Secretary, MSME Government of Odisha on Cluster Development and District Growth: An Insider’s Perspective on Odisha’s Strategy. Sudatta Mandal, DMD, SIDBI would speak on Building Odisha’s Startup Hub: SIDBI’s Role in Shaping the Next Decade.
The SME sector in the country is known for its entrepreneurial achievements and ambition and the MSME Conclaves aims to provide the platform to strengthen small businesses in the country. Odisha’s recent economic growth makes it an ideal choice for entrepreneurs to base their business in the state. Odisha’s real Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown at 10.1% in 2021-22, which is higher than the national growth rate of 8.8%. It is fitting that one of the SIDBI-ET MSME Conclave would be held in Bhubaneshwar.The industry sector in the state grew at 14.5% followed by the service sector with 7.9% in 2021-22. The industry sector’s Gross State Value Added (GSVA) share increased from 17% in 1993-94 to 39.5% in 2021-22.The export turnover of Odisha has increased by 169.3% from Rs 47,242 crore in 2019-20 to Rs 127,232 crore in 2021-22. The share of exports of the State in all-India exports has grown significantly from 2.21% in 2016-17 to 4.04% in 2021-22.
Odisha also contributes significantly to the nation’s mineral production (excluding fuel oil and atomic minerals). Odisha, with a share of 47.2% in the national output, was the leading mineral producer of the country in 2021-22. In terms of mineral reserves in India, Odisha accounts for 96% of Chromite, 92% of Nickel, 51% of Bauxite, 33% of Iron ore, 43% of Manganese ore and 24% of Coal.
In 2020-21, the agriculture sector in Odisha grew by 7.4% as compared to 3.3% at all India level. The vast coast- line of 480 km provides ample scope for marine and coir produce. Odisha is the 4th largest producer of fish and the 4th largest producer of shrimp in the country.
The state government has been active in promoting entrepreneurship. With a view to provide a conducive ecosystem for promoting the growth of small businesses and MSMEs in a focused manner, the State has come up with the “Odisha MSME Development Policy, 2022.”
According to the state government, the Odisha MSME Development Policy, 2022 has been formulated through a consultative process involving stakeholders including Industry Associations, Financial Institutions, Experts and Government Departments concerned. This Policy aims to facilitate creation and sustenance of MSME enterprises in the State. The major focus of this policy is to create quality infrastructure, provide growth enabling incentives, facilitate MSME cluster development, extend support to MSMEs for sourcing and supplying of raw materials, enable technology upgradation and provide capacity building & skill upgradation facilities for MSMEs.
Apart from Indore and Bhubaneswar, other cities where SIDBI-ET MSME Conclave will be conducted include Ludhiana, Belgaum, Rajkot, and Aurangabad.
