Shoppers ‘crying’ and declare ‘Christmas is ruined’ after Nestle axes classic sweet treat


SHOPPERS have been left “crying” and shouting “Christmas is ruined” after Nestle axed a classic sweet treat.

Chocolate lovers have been dealt a blow after the food and beverage company confirmed Pink Smarties have been discontinued.

The flavour was on sale for Christmas 2022, and shoppers could snap up a 150g tube for £1 at Asda.

But the chocolatier recently posted on X, formerly Twitter, that they won’t be available this year.

They said: “Sorry to have to give you disappointing news, unfortunately Smarties Pink has been discontinued from our range.”

A spokesperson added: “This year our fans can enjoy Smarties Orange, Smarties White, Smarties Milk and Smarties Candy Cane Giant Tube, a special mix of red and white milk chocolate Smarties.”

It is understood the flavour is only ever released as a limited edition and different ranges of flavours are launched every year.

Shoppers have reacted with devastation following the news the Pink variety has been axed.

One said: “Where have all the tubes of pink Smarties gone

“Christmas is ruined!! My nearly 18 year old daughter is devo’d!!”

A second said: “My daughter is distraught as I’ve just had to break the news that Santa will not be bringing a tube of pink smarties this year!

“She’s currently crying down the phone to her best friend!”

And a third added: “It had to be pink.”

It’s not the first product Nestle has discontinued in recent months, to the disappointment of shoppers.

This month, it was revealed the food giant had axed the popular Polo fruits and Polo Gummies from its offering.

Meanwhile, in November, chocolate fans were left gutted after hearing the company was axing the iconic Caramac bar after 60 years.

It confirmed it had made the “difficult decision” due to low sales.

One shopper said: “Noooo. I’m still not over the Topic going,” while another added: ““Bl**dy travesty.”

And a third couldn’t believe it, saying: “No no no! I love this stuff.”

In the same month, Nestle confirmed it had discontinued the Animal bar too, a fan favourite since 1963.

And fans have already claimed the chocolatier “ruined family desserts” by axing the beloved Carnation Extra Thick Cream.

Plus, Cadbury quietly scrapped the popular Dairy Milk 30% less sugar bar earlier this year which is no longer available for purchase.
