I was impressed with all the extra features available, and I felt safer knowing I had it.
What is the Birdie+?
As seen on TikTok, the Birdie+ is a “pull the pin” personal safety alarm—when you detach the body of the alarm from the top, it sounds an alarm until you reconnect the two parts. It’s about 3.5 inches long, 1.25 inches wide, and 0.75 inches thick. It has a loop on the top so you can connect it to your keychain, backpack, or purse, and it comes with a keychain and keyring.
The original Birdie alarm looks similar, but is just a siren and flashing strobe light designed to deter an attacker. In place of the light, the Birdie+ has a button that allows for some extra safety features via the Birdie+ app.
One press of the button activates a fake phone call giving you an excuse to leave an uncomfortable situation. Two taps prompts a representative from She’s Birdie to call you and stay on the phone until you reach your destination safely or dispatch first responders if necessary. Pressing and holding the button for three seconds sends your location to pre-selected emergency contacts. You can activate all these features without the alarm should you need a discreet call for help.
The original Birdie costs $30 and the Birdie+ costs $40, which includes a 30-day free trial of the Birdie+ app. After that, a subscription costs $90 a year. Without a subscription, you can still use the alarm on the Birdie+, but you won’t have access to the other safety features.
What we like about the Birdie+
It’s easy to access and use

The She’s Birdie+ has instant, 24/7 access to a Live Support representative.
The Birdie+ alarm was convenient to hook to my keys, bag, and belt loop, and it stayed securely attached at all times. Using it is easy—I never had any trouble triggering the alarm or pressing the button to use one of the other safety features.
The app gives you all the information you could need including your Birdie’s battery level, location, and features available like location sharing. It’s easy to navigate and I didn’t experience any connection issues.
The extra safety features are extremely useful
The alarm is helpful on its own, but the other safety features really make the Birdie+ worth it for me. The on-call reps are helpful, reassuring, and quick to respond, and the excuse call is so believable, a friend who I showed the alarm to couldn’t tell whether it was the app or a real emergency.
And though I didn’t use this feature, being able to share my location with authorities gave me the most peace of mind.
What we don’t like about the Birdie+
The alarm could be louder

Users can share their location with emergency contacts.
While the alarm is certainly noticeable, I think it could be louder or more aggressive. While testing, I showed friends the alarm to gauge their reaction. Multiple people who heard the alarm said they expected it to be louder—a few noted it sounded like a car alarm and might not grab their attention in an actual emergency.
You can accidentally set off the alarm

Users can receive a fake “Excuse-to-Leave” call.
I accidentally set off the alarm twice during testing, once when the alarm was in my pocket and I bent over to grab something off the floor, and a second time pulling my keychain out of my purse. It was quick and easy to reattach the alarm—and at the end of the day I’d rather accidentally set off the alarm than have it be too difficult to pull—but it was still somewhat annoying.
You can turn the alarm off if you know you won’t be needing it, but I prefer to keep it on at all times in case of emergency.
What other people are saying about the Birdie+
The Birdie+ has a five-star rating on the brand’s site from more than 150 reviews. Many reviewers previously owned the original alarm and say they love the additional features the Birdie+ offers.
“I have had to use it twice and in both instances it definitely brought a lot of attention towards my way which is a great thing because other people were aware of what was happening and were more inclined to help because they heard my alarm,” says one reviewer.
What to know about She’s Birdie’s privacy policy
If you have a subscription to the Birdie+ app, the brand collects your location data to allow you to access the premium features included with your membership. According to the brand’s privacy policy, your personal information may be shared “to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive.” Should you have concerns about how or why your information may be shared, give the privacy policy a look or reach out to the brand’s support team if you can’t find an answer to your question.
Is the Birdie+ worth it?
Yes, using it made me feel much safer

Pulling the pin on the She’s Birdie+ activates its loud siren you can use to deter an attacker and get the attention of everyone around you.
I attached the Birdie+ to my keychain and carried it with me in Ubers, on public transit, on my way to and from work, and when attending concerts and going to bars. I was impressed with all the extra features available, and I felt safer knowing I had it.
I do think the siren could be louder to attract even more attention in an emergency, but it doesn’t seem like many reviewers had that issue, so it could just be personal preference. If you’re looking for a personal safety tool with multiple features to help keep you safe in an emergency, or an uncomfortable situation, the Birdie+ is well worth it.
