Secure your Microsoft account by revoking third-party access – Komando

Connecting your Google account to multiple devices gives you access to services like Gmail and Google Maps, no matter where you are. But be careful to check this when selling your phone or giving away your laptop. Here’s how to remove devices from your Google account.

It’s not just limited to devices. Many Big Tech companies let you use your credentials with them to log into third-party apps and services. They usually explain that it will “enhance your experience” or something along those lines. While convenient, you should keep an eye on this feature.

Here’s how to manage the apps connected to your Microsoft account.

Check your permissions

You can connect apps and services to your Microsoft account to easily access them with just one login credential. Depending on which program you connect, this integrates data in various ways. This may include your personal information, activity, history, contact list and more. It could even grant an app reading and editing permissions.

For example, connecting your Microsoft and Gmail accounts syncs your email messages and calendars between the two services.

Though you have to give permission via a notification window, you probably have some apps and services connected that you haven’t used in years. The more spread out your credentials, the greater your risk of hacks and scams.

Here’s how to disconnect apps from your Microsoft account:

  • Head to account.microsoft.com/account and log into your account.
  • Click on the Privacy tab at the top of the page and scroll down to the More privacy settings section.
  • Click on View app access details in the Apps and services box.
  • Click Edit below an app you want to remove.
  • Select Remove these permissions.
