Seattle Auto Show Electrifies the Public – Powerlines – seattle.gov

This past weekend, Lumen Field Event Center was buzzing with excitement. The Seattle Auto Show brought together all major auto brands to show off their latest models, including all electric vehicles (EV) and electric plug-in hybrids. There were also classic cars on display to bring some nostalgia to the show and tiny models for kids to enjoy driving.

Since Washington is one of the fastest-growing markets for EVs, it is no wonder the crowds flocked to check out the newest offerings. Show attendees could get up close and personal with the cars available on the show’s EV Revolution area and take a test drive along the EV Highway. Big draws this year were the winged Tesla X, the first of its kind KIA EV 9 with three rows of seating, the Ford 150 Lightning for truck enthusiasts, and, for sports car fans, the Porsche Taycan.

“The atmosphere was electric, with car enthusiasts of all ages coming together to celebrate their passion for cars,” said Yogi Yogeswaran, City Light’s Supervisor of Office Service, who visited the show with his sixteen-year-old son. The self-described car buff went on to remark that the first electric Rolls Royce was eye-catching for many people and encouraged others to attend the show in the future. “It is an excellent way spend a day for any car enthusiast or someone looking for a fun and unique experience.”

Since one of the first questions car buyers ask when purchasing an electric vehicle is “how will I charge it?” Seattle City Light staff were also on site to help answer any questions the public might have about EV charging infrastructure – both at home and in public. Hats off to the more than 30 individuals who represented City Light over the four-day show! Interacting with the public is a great way to get a pulse on what you’re most concerned about regarding transportation electrification and charging infrastructure. Your feedback is always appreciated and welcome.
