Samsung, IBM Hit With Patent Suit Over Assistants Bixby, Watson – Bloomberg Law


Samsung Electronics Co. and International Business Machines Corp. were accused of infringing patented virtual assistant technology when developing and selling their respective products, Bixby and Watson.

GeoSymm Ventures LLC brought near-identical complaints against the tech giants in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Thursday, alleging Samsung’s Bixby and IBM’s Watson directly infringe GeoSymm’s patent for a request-based, automated assistant on a computing device.

Bixby and Watson’s automated assistant features, such as providing personalized recommendations or interfacing with text messages, overlap with claims in US Patent No. 9,130,900, GeoSymm said.
