Rummaging the fridge at midnight

Diving into the refrigerator’s cool embrace in the hushed hours of midnight offers a delightful experience that borders on committing an act of transgression. With the whole world dark and sleeping, you encounter the soft glow of the fridge’s light, reminiscent of moonlight, and then guide your hand – as well as eyes and nose – through an array of leftovers and (possible) treats. This clandestine culinary expedition, far from the routine of scheduled meals or even ‘proper’ snacks, brings a unique sense of anticipation of quenching the ‘munchies’.

The refrigerator’s shelves become a treasure trove, holding an assortment of tastes and textures. Leftover slices of pizza, some pulao in the back, that ‘last laddoo’… fingers strategically swoop up khaana straight from the indoor storage.

In these solitary, stolen moments, food becomes part of past meals, eating becomes part of evolution-approved foraging. The fridge keeps company with its hum, and approving light. With the rummaging over, the mini surge of appetite sated, the fridge awaits another midnight sojourn another day.
