Resilient and Determined


There is hardly anyone who does not face challenges and problems in life. The intensity may differ, yet, what is commonly experienced is a sense of despair when things spiral out of control. We read stories of immense courage and resilience among those hounded out of home and country, like that of the Tibetan people who fled their beloved homes, due to Chinese oppression. Or those who are forced to become refugees in their own country, like the Kashmiri Pandits following militancy in the Kashmir Valley. Those who manage to survive the humiliation, uncertainty, deprivation and tragedy have done so by keeping the flame of resilience alive.

Faith and belief play crucial roles in boosting the morale of the desperate. For, not everyone has that inner strength to rely solely on their own intellectual resources to survive extreme conditions. It is in times of sadness and vulnerability that one feels the need to cling to an unseen power. And, there is nothing wrong in hoping thus. For, it is hope, faith and prayer that come to the aid of those who have lost everything else.

The Greek author Dinos Christianopoulos said while addressing the literary community that once trashed his works, ‘What didn’t you do to bury me / but you forgot that I was a seed.’ He . He went on to become globally famous for his writings… powered by resilience and, more importantly, fuelled by determination and with faith and confidence in himself.
