A recent report has surfaced about an offensive Facebook comment Rep. George Santos posted over a decade ago.
According to NBC News, Santos denies the authenticity of the Facebook posts.
Santos posted a recent Twitter message stating, “From interviewing clowns, to creating fake “posts” the media continues to down spiral as their attempt to smear me fails. I am getting the job I signed up for done, while you all spiral out of control.”
The congressman also took to the floor of the House to recognize the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945 on Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“Let this day serve as a reminder that we must honor the victims and survivors,” Santos said. “We must also pay tribute to the liberators who rescued millions of people who nearly fell victim to the Holocaust.”
Meanwhile, Santos’ former political opponent Robert Zimmerman and his supporters gathered signatures in Bayside on Friday to put pressure on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to expel Santos.
He says Santos’ fabricated record, lies and lack of work in New York’s 3rd District is disgraceful.
“Let’s be serious about this – Kevin McCarthy will never move on this unless, in fact, he’s pressured to do so,” Zimmerman says.
Other residents in the district are more focused about what Holocaust Remembrance Day is supposed to be about and not what Santos allegedly said.
“My mother was a Holocaust survivor. She survived Auschwitz. I think that our focus today should be more on what happened in the Holocaust. Remembering the people who perished and not waste our time talking about somebody like George Santos,” said one resident.
News 12 reached out to Santos and his team for comment and has not heard back.
