Police to Issue Driving License Type C into 3 Categories – Tempo.co English

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Police Traffic Corps will implement a policy of dividing the driver’s license (SIM) for two-wheeled motor vehicles, or Type C, to three categories.

“The sooner, the better. SIM C1 is (ready), (but) I have not talked about SIM C2 yet,” Police Traffic Corps’ Director of Registration and Identification, Brigadier General Yusri Yunus, remarked on Saturday.

To welcome the policy, the Traffic Corps has prepared 32 units of Hunter Scramble SK500 motorbikes that will be used for the SIM C1 practical exam.

This SIM C categorization policy is contained in National Police Regulation No. 5 of 2021 about Issuing and Tagging of Driving License, precisely in Article 13, paragraph 2, letters g, h, and i.

Yunus explained that in accordance with the regulation, in order to qualify for a C1 driving license, one must already have a SIM C for at least one year from the issue date. Likewise, for a C2 SIM, one must hold a C1 driving license for at least one year.

“SIM C1 for 250 cc to 500 cc (two-wheeled) vehicles, SIM C2 for 500 cc and above. Hence, if you have a 1,000-cc motorbike, you must have the SIM C2,” he pointed out.

The Traffic Corps procured 32 units of Hunter Scramble SK500 for the SIM C1 practical exam that were distributed to 468 SIM administrative units across Indonesia.

Hunter Scramble SK500 is a motorcycle, with a capacity of 471 cc, four-stroke engine, and two parallel cylinders.

Yunus said the target is 1,000 units of exam motorbikes for 468 SIM administrative units throughout Indonesia, with at least each having two units.

Since there are only 32 units for now, the Hunger Scramble SK500 is prioritized for the SIM Administrative Units in major cities, such as Jakarta, and other regions in Java, Bali, Sumatra, and other provincial capitals.
