Recently, a phony social media post claimed that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would be producing a Rs 7 coin in honor of former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. A manipulated picture of the coin was included with the assertion, which implied that Dhoni’s contributions to Indian cricket will be acknowledged. The Press Information Bureau (PIB), however, has verified that this assertion is untrue.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the PIB Fact Check account warned users “ An image circulating on social media claims that a new Rs 7 coin will be released to honor Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his contributions to Indian Cricket. The claim made in the image is fake. The Department of Economic Affairs has made NO such announcement.”
