Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien announced on Thursday that the city has partnered with a safety technology firm to keep children safe in schools.
Skypath Security is a Rhode Island company that aims to allow first responders to have a minute-by-minute look at what’s happening inside during an emergency. City officials said Pawtucket plans to implement Skypath Security as a solution inside classrooms and public buildings in 2024.

“Pawtucket has prioritized student safety with a lot of school construction projects, and we view this as a new step down the pathway of making Pawtucket as safe as possible for students and all people that visit our public buildings,” Pawtucket Director of Administration Dylan Zelazo said at the press conference.
Officials said the system can be used in various instances, such as an active shooter situation to medical emergencies.
“By leveraging our military-grade technology, we aim to provide a comprehensive security solution that enhances the safety of schools and public buildings,” said CEO of Skypath Security Inc. David Paolo. “We’re excited to bring this out. This is going to be deployed initially to all of the schools in Pawtucket.”
Paolo said the company built an interactive platform that can stream live data from inside a critical incident directly to first responder devices and directly to 911 operators. He also said the platform will allow first responders to identify where people are in the building and help extract them from an emergency.

City officials said the technology will also be implemented to public buildings such as government facilities, community centers and libraries.
“The safety and security of our community is of utmost importance to us,” Grebien said. “This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the well-being of our residents and enhancing emergency preparedness.”
At the time, the company told the NBC 10 I-Team that its technology was the solution districts have been searching for.
The app was meant to transmit data back and forth with police, such as room number, the number of people and a password.
