OVO Energy giving £340 to customers who ditch boiler

Energy firm OVO is handing out £340 worth of free heating to customers who ditch their boiler and switch to a heat pump.

Heat pumps are a relatively new type of home heating which run off electricity rather than fossil fuels like gas – and now that the UK has shut its last coal fired power station, that electricity is much cleaner than before, too.

They work by heating the air, and many models can be switched into reverse and used as air conditioning in the summer.

But according to OVO, just 16 percent of UK households are currently considering switching to a heat pump, despite the fact that 62 percent would be more likely to install one if they were offered some kind of incentive.

Now OVO is looking to tempt customers to ditch their boilers and make the switch to the more modern heating appliances by offering a year’s worth of free heating up to £340.

It said: “OVO is rewarding customers for switching their gas boiler to a heat pump by offering Beyond customers up to a year of free heating for their future heat pump, worth over £340 in bill credit.

“Customers can kickstart their transition to a heat pump today, by simply signing up to bank free heating credit via the OVO Beyond app. Customers will be able to accrue a maximum of a year’s worth of free heating over two years which they will be able to start redeeming as credit off their monthly bill when they install a new heat pump with OVO.”

Mat Moakes, Chief Commercial Officer, OVO said: “We know that not everyone is ready to make the switch now, so we’re offering extra support to bank rewards and save for the future. Over half a million customers are already on the app ready to bank solar panels and EV miles, it’s one of the many ways that we’re helping households on the journey to a greener future.”
